This article considers the evolution of representations of LGBTQIA+ characters in French crime fiction imprints between 1945 and 1989, focusing in particular on the Série Noire. It begins with a linguistic analysis of the terms favored by translations of American crime novels to refer to the LGBTQIA+ community, and moves toward an analysis of the history of its representation in American crime fiction. The overall aim is to determine whether there are significant discrepancies in the representation of this community between American crime fiction and its French translations during the period under consideration.
